菊花，有野菊、家菊之分，有觀賞、藥用之別。顏色一般有白、黃、紫、綠等。據說全世界的菊花品種有二千多個，菊品既繁，名目亦多，除供觀賞外，還可藥用和飲用。
      
    作為藥用，以產于河南溫縣一帶的“懷菊”最為有名，是四大懷藥之一。其次為安徽的“亳菊”、“滁菊”，浙江的“杭菊”，四川的“川菊”和山東的“濟菊”。
      
    菊花有很高的藥用價值，懷菊就屬于藥用菊。祖國醫學認為，菊性寒，歷經寒暑，得天地之清氣，有清熟、解毒、祛風、平肝、明目等功效。根據中醫的傳統經驗，白菊花長于平肝明目，黃菊花多用于散風清熟。因此，明目多用懷菊，清熟多用杭菊。
