安陽桂花產于安陽郊區龍泉花卉之鄉。該鄉山清水秀，風景絢麗，尤其金線河兩岸土壤肥沃，適宜栽種花木。魏晉時已開始種植花木，距今有1800年歷史。龍泉的桂花為全國之冠。它的特點是葉小而尖、節短、葉稠、坐花穩、開花多、花朵大、香味濃郁、凌寒不凋。安桂分金桂、銀桂、月桂、丹桂4個品種，安桂是用小葉冬青和流芳做砧木嫁接而成。當年嫁接，當年開花，棵體矮而秀麗，風姿獨特。若把一盆安桂置于室內，其香味四溢，沁人肺腑，令人賞心悅目。據傳，清乾隆四十四年(1779)，龍泉花師趙日貞在北京賣花時，花香飄數里，飛鳥棲枝，行人駐足。乾隆皇帝將趙日貞召入宮中，盛贊龍泉桂花的風姿和郁香，隨即選中一株，封為"安桂"，并賜銀50兩。從此，龍泉桂花聲譽大振，聞名國內外。
