百合又名摩羅，強翟。是一種多年生草本植物，屬百合科。高二三尺，地下有鱗莖，葉披針形而互生，夏季莖梢著花，大而美麗，有香氣，花裂六片，白色帶紅，無斑點，雄蕊六個，花藥為丁字形，雌蕊一個，柱頭三裂，鱗莖供食用，味甚美。
      
    百合自古產于河南，在張衡《南都賦》，清代嵩縣知縣康基淵的《百合園記》，清末《河南官報》等著作中都有記載。特別是蘭考縣盛產“考百”，已有400余年的歷史。原產于考城縣南一帶，明萬歷年間，考城縣張風采考中進士，進京面圣時以當地百合進獻，圣上食后龍顏大悅，賜名“考百”，從此“考百”名于世。
      
    “考百”質肉細膩，營養豐富，味道醇厚、鮮美，是滋補佳品。但對百合的鱗莖球掰瓣，需經水浸除其苦性，并剔除綠心（綠心極苦，十錢作藥，可抵犀角一錢），方可加糖煮食。“考百”銷往上海、廣州、香港等地，當地設有“考百”店，精制百合湯，就食者絡繹不絕，深受歡迎。“考百”大有發展前途，目前，蘭考張莊張氏后裔，又培植出百合新品種。
      
    嵩縣所產百合小而味甘，為河南特產。

    They were originally produced in Southern Kaocheng County. In Wanli period of Ming Dynasty, it was named as Kaobai and from then on they earned their high reputation. Lilies are good nourishing food for their fine and smooth sarcocard, rich nutrition and tasty flavor. They are well welcomed by the masses and have been sold to Shanghai, Guangzhou, Hong Kong and so on. Besides, lilies produced in Songxian County also have small shapes and delicious flavor, which are specialties in Henan Province.
