主產于河南新鄭、中牟等地,也是新鄭棗區的主栽品種之一,約占新鄭棗區總產量的30%,是我國紅棗出口拳頭產品,主要固定銷到東南亞和日本等地,經濟效益較高。
果實較小,平均單果重5.6g,大小整齊。‘雞心棗’的代表型為雞心狀,果皮薄,果肉厚,致密,質細,味極甜,可溶性固形物含量31%以上,可食率 91.8%,是優良的制干品種,制干率較灰棗高,干棗可食率約為90.3%,核小,肉質較緊實,有彈性,耐壓擠,耐貯藏,品質極上。
果實于9月中旬成熟。樹勢較旺、豐產、穩產,抗干旱、耐鹽堿、耐瘠薄、抗干熱風、抗病蟲能力強,特別是抗棗縮果病。成熟季節遇雨不裂果。因與酸棗親緣關系較近,因而用酸棗作砧木改接后豐產、穩產性好。最棗中的優良品種,可大面積推廣栽培。新鄭小棗為地理標志商標。
